Metadata Cleaner

Terms of Use

Last updated: July 11, 2026

These Terms of Use govern Metadata Cleaner – Privacy (“Metadata Cleaner”) on iPhone and Mac and its browser companion. By using the app or website, you agree to use it responsibly and only with files you have the right to inspect, clean, or share.

What Metadata Cleaner does

The native app inspects user-selected photos, Live Photos, videos, PDFs, and supported Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, lets you choose supported cleaning policies, creates a separate cleaned copy, and re-scans supported results. The browser companion inspects and rebuilds supported photos and videos locally in the browser. Originals are not intentionally modified by either product.

Local processing

Selected-file inspection and cleaning are designed to happen on the device or in the browser. The native quota service receives an opaque DeviceCheck token, an optional free-export reservation count, and a non-personal development or production environment marker; it does not receive the selected file, filename, or metadata contents. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Free exports and Premium

The native app includes three free exports per physical device. Apple DeviceCheck is used to keep that allowance resistant to reinstall. Premium unlocks unlimited native cleaning exports. New customers may be offered a Lifetime non-consumable purchase and a Yearly auto-renewable subscription. A previously purchased Weekly subscription remains entitlement-compatible but is not presented to new customers.

Purchases and restoration use Apple StoreKit 2. Prices and availability are the localized values shown by Apple before purchase. Apple manages billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund eligibility. Auto-renewable subscriptions continue until canceled in the Apple Account subscription settings. The browser companion has no account, subscription, or account-based export quota.

Limitations

Metadata cleaning does not remove visible watermarks or determine whether content was generated by AI. C2PA and Content Credentials results describe locally available provenance evidence and verification status, not a visual-content classification. The optional Visual Privacy Check is assistive, applies opaque covers only to regions you select in a separate copy, and may miss sensitive content. Review every result before sharing it.

Some formats, codecs, metadata locations, document review structures, annotations, or platform-specific tags may be unsupported, preserved, or disclosed for review rather than removed. Fidelity can vary when a format requires decoding or rebuilding. Browser video cleaning can be slower or more limited than native cleaning. A successful export by itself is not a guarantee that every possible hidden or visible signal was removed.

Acceptable use

You are responsible for the media you process and share. Do not use the service to misrepresent ownership, provenance, authorship, legal rights, or compliance obligations.

No professional advice

Metadata Cleaner is a utility and does not provide legal, compliance, copyright, authenticity, or forensic advice. You remain responsible for deciding whether a cleaned copy is appropriate for your intended use.

Availability and changes

Features, supported formats, pricing, and availability may change over time. We may update these terms when the product changes or when operational, legal, or security requirements make updates necessary.
